Course Description
The workshop conveys the basic knowledge about the compelling usage of graphical elements (typography, image, colour) and the application of the key principles of graphic design (balance, proportion, composition, alignment, hierarchy, etc.) to professionally and effectively present academic content. In combination with an overview and training how to use essential design tools
of the graphics software Affinity Publisher, participants will have the opportunity to train their design skills hands-on, as well as to get the best out of their drafts, by analysing and discussing with group and trainer during the practice sessions.
In this course we will focus on Affinity Publisher to show you the basic workflow with a professional design tool. However, we will also take a brief look at Affinity Designer and cover the different uses of both applications.
No matter what kind of software you will choose later, all key principles of design covered in the workshop are transferable to any other graphics software.
Please bring your laptops as well as your own text and image material, recently designed drafts, or examples of design tasks you are specifically
interested in.
If you are particularly interested in academic poster design, please choose the workshop format Designing Effective Academic Posters.
The Graduate Academy will supply participants with a one year Affinity V2 universal license. There will also be a second in-depth Affinity V2 training offered later this year.
ECTS-Points
0,5 Credit Points can be obtained by attending this course. Please contact your faculty for the recognition of performance for the doctoral degree.
