This year’s skills development programme at the Competence School starts in October with workshops for doctoral researchers and postdocs at Leipzig University.

This Year’s Programme with Workshops in Four Skill Areas

We are happy to present our new programme which includes workshops on methodology and software such as Introduction to R and Academic Writing & Publishing Research, workshops on issues of research integrity including a crash course on research data management, a workshop on good scientific practice and one on planning your career in or outside of academia There will also be workshops that centre in on skills such as (self-)management and leadership, creative methods for research, and writing a dissertation. The four categories Research and Integrity, Career Development, Leadership and Management, and Communication and Creativity focus on specific skill areas that are important for your career portfolio as an early career researcher.

“The yearly programme of workshops and events is designed to make it even easier for doctoral researchers and postdocs to integrate skill development into their everyday work and research”, says Juliane Rein, Programme Coordinator for the Competence School. She put together the programme, organised the workshops, and supervises trainers and participants.

Writing Lab for Networking and Writing Support

We continue our Writing Lab, where doctoral researchers can receive support in writing their dissertation. Monthly Writing Days, individual consultations, workshops and a Cowriting Space give doctoral researchers and postdocs the opportunity to network, receive further training and overcome obstacles in their writing.

All workshops can be found here on our website. As usual, registration opens one month before each workshop takes place. Some of the workshops will take place online and others will be on site in the seminar rooms of the Research Academy Leipzig at Villa Tillmanns. The further development of the coronavirus pandemic may require us to make last-minute changes. We have developed a hygiene plan for our on-site workshops, which will be published well in advance, and ask for the cooperation of all participants.
